Gran Kaz Lends a Helping Hand to the SSPCA in "10 for 10" Campaign
Monday morning at the Seychelles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) was filled with wagging tails, purring companions, and a strong sense of community as Gran Kaz made its 3rd donation in the "10 for 10" campaign. The donation of SCR 20,000 was handed over during a small ceremony at 10:00 AM on the 16th of December 2024.
The SSPCA has been taking care of stray and abandoned animals for over 15 years, from its small beginnings running out of vet services at union vale to the shelter it runs today with over 200 animals under its care. The SSPCA not only works to look after the animals surrendered to them and give them safe shelter but, also, to teach and work on animal welfare topics to continue to encourage change and the better treatment of our furry friends.
This contribution aims to support the SSPCA’s ongoing mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned and neglected animals in Seychelles, and to help raise awareness and education on the importance of controlling the stray population through sterilization campaigns. All of which play a crucial role in reducing the number of animals left vulnerable on the streets.
Gran Kaz’s involvement, however, did not stop at the cheque handover. Members of the Gran Kaz team stayed behind to roll up their sleeves and volunteer at the shelter, showing their commitment to animal welfare. The team spent the day socializing with the animals, offering much-needed companionship to the cats and dogs at the shelter. They also helped bathe and feed the animals, bringing immeasurable joy to both the animals and the volunteers.
“A Cause Close to the Heart”
Gran Kaz PR Manager, Shama Amesbury, shared her thoughts on the experience:
“Animals bring so much joy to our lives, and it’s heart-breaking to think of any of them being abandoned or mistreated. Supporting the SSPCA is about giving these animals a chance at a better life, and spending time here today has only deepened our appreciation for the incredible work the SSPCA team does every day.”
Amidst the bustling activity, one furry character stood out — the SSPCA’s beloved mascot, JJ or Jimmy Junior, affectionately named after one of the SSPCA’s longest-serving staff members. JJ, is a stray cat with a knack for finding himself in the right place at the right time. He wandered into the SSPCA on his own about a year ago and never left. Now, he’s a cherished member of the shelter’s staff, often seen lounging in the office or greeting visitors with an affectionate nuzzle. His presence was a highlight of the day, bringing smiles to the Gran Kaz team as he graciously “inspected” their work.
The SSPCA expressed gratitude not only for the financial support but also for the hands-on assistance provided by the Gran Kaz team.
“We appreciate the help our sponsors and fellow animal lovers give to help us to continue the work we do and we are forever grateful to Gran Kaz for their continued support throughout the years. With strong partners like Gran Kaz to set an example of generosity and care towards causes such as ourselves we can continue to do the important work we are blessed to be able to do.”
More Than Just a Donation This donation and volunteer initiative is part of Gran Kaz’s larger "10 for 10" campaign, celebrating a decade of operations by giving back to 10 meaningful causes in Seychelles. The campaign underscores the company’s commitment to being a force for good in the community, extending their contributions beyond financial support to include active engagement and participation.
After hours of basking in the love of the fur babies, the Gran Kaz team left the shelter with a sense of accomplishment, knowing they had made a difference, however small, in the lives of the animals under SSPCA’s care.
Gran Kaz’s support for the SSPCA highlights the importance of standing by organizations dedicated to protecting vulnerable animals and fostering a compassionate society. The "10 for 10" campaign continues to prove that positive change starts with collective action and a shared sense of responsibility.
