Celebrating World Poetry Day: Recap of the 2024 Kenwyn House Poetry Competition

Commemorating World Poetry Day on the 21st of March, Kenwyn House Art Gallery celebrated poetic talent and community spirit, at the 2024 Kenwyn House Poetry Competition Prize Giving ceremony. Held at a venue brimming with poetry enthusiasts, the event resonated with the echoes of verses crafted to touch hearts and minds.

Opening the ceremony, attendees were welcomed with warmth and enthusiasm by PR and Communications Manager for Gran Kaz, Shama Amesbury who expressed gratitude to all participants for their passion, creativity, and dedication throughout the competition.

 

"The Kenwyn House Poetry Competition serves as a testament to the power of poetry to unite, inspire, and elevate the human spirit," remarked Amesbury.
 

Embracing the theme of "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants," participants were reminded of the profound legacy left by past generations of poets, whose wisdom continues to inspire contemporary expression.

 
"As we celebrate World Poetry Day, we honour the giants of poetry who have paved the way for us, while challenging ourselves to forge new paths of creativity and innovation," emphasized Amesbury.
 

Amidst an atmosphere charged with anticipation, the moment arrived to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of the competition's participants. Beginning with the Fountain Poets category (ages 10 -15), Janavi Vivasanth emerged as the victor, captivating audiences with her evocative piece, "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants."

Transitioning to the Quill Poets category (ages 16-20), Raina Nicette claimed second place with her enchanting poem "Sur les Épaules des Géants," while Shamara Adam claimed the top spot with her mesmerizing composition, "The View From Above."

"The overwhelming response to the public voting system reflects the deep engagement and enthusiasm of our community for the arts," noted Amesbury.

In the final category, the Reeds Poets (ages 21+) , Ashen Tenege captured second place with his poignant work, "The Devil's Tears," unfortunately Tenege was unable to attend the prize giving ceremony. Richard Elizabeth clinched the first-place position with his compelling poem "A Poet's Legacy," represented by Mary Lablache in his absence.

As the ceremony drew to a close, attendees were reminded of the upcoming painting competition, a testament to Kenwyn House's commitment to nurturing artistic expression within the community.
