Donation of wheelchairs
Gra Kaz Donates Wheelchairs to Victoria Hospital on International Day for the Disabled.
In a small handover ceremony at the Red Roof Building of the hospital on Friday 3rd December, Public Relations and Communications Manager at Gran Kaz, Ms. Shama Amesbury, officially handed over 5 wheelchairs to the Deputy CEO of the Health Care Agency, Mrs. Kathleen Cecile.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Amesbury said “over the years, Gran Kaz has always attempted to assist the hospital with Donations. At the beginning of this year we had budgeted about SCR 200,000 to donate, which we subsequently ended up donating to the COVID relief fund instead – at the time it was a more pressing cause and we wanted to do our part, of course.
Then in the months that followed we were closed and not earning so we unfortunately had to rethink our entire CSR portfolio. Even though the tax itself is no longer obligatory – Gran Kaz chooses to still keep its Corporate Citizenship initiative going.
We feel that, if anything, NGO’s and other non-profits are even more in need now than they were before. And the same goes for the hospital. With COVID having taken such a toll and precedence, we just wanted to assist with other little things that may become overlooked or have had to be put on the backburner, but are nonetheless essential.
Last year we realized that the hospital was in need of more wheelchairs, at the time we donated 3 as that’s what we were in a position to do, and now this year, again with limited funds but not limited wishes, we chose to add another 5 to the previously donated batch.
We hope that this can help the hospital, so that you can continue to provide the best possible health care to those in need.”
In response, Mrs. Cecile thanked Gran Kaz for the donation, saying that the PHA is extremely grateful for this generosity, especially knowing how businesses like Gran Kaz have suffered from the impacts of COVID.
“The fact that you are still willing to set aside funds to help through donations means a lot.” Said Mrs. Cecile, “The hospital has also struggled from the impacts of COVID, and with a large portion of funds focused on COVID, we truly appreciate donations of other items, that have been overlooked as a result.”
