Gran Kaz Staff Pool together and make donation to Orphanages

On Friday 10th December a small group from Gran Kaz visited the 4 orphanages on Mahe, to deliver items that had been collected by different staff members for the Children.

This donation was part of the Gran Kaz Community Outreach Programme, an initiative that was started earlier this year.

“The basic idea is that staff come together and give back to the community in different ways, so far this year we did a beach clean-up, and we volunteered at the SSPCA.’ Says PR and Communications Manager at Gran Kaz, Ms. Shama Amesbury

The idea for the donation to the orphanages came about as a result of realizing how much harder it is for charity and non- profit organisations to get by with limited funding.

“COVID has been financially hard on everyone, businesses as well as individuals and these organisations are suffering as a result – where before people had more at their disposal to donate and assist, this has now decreased drastically, we just wanted to help out with whatever items they needed most.” Says Amesbury

Amongst items collected and donated to the orphanages were clothes, diapers, wipes and formula for the babies at St. Elizabeth, feminine products for the girls of foyer de la solitude, clothes, school supplies, and a washing machine for Foyer de Nazareth, and clothes, cups and books for the children at President’s Village.

The group started their trip around the island at Foyer de Nazareth in La Gogue, then to President’s Village in Port Launey, through La Misere to Foyer de la Solitude. , and ending the day at Foyer de la Providence (St Elizabeth) in town.

Speaking on behalf of Foyer de Nazareth, Sister Romea thanked the Gran Kaz staff for the donation saying it is lovely to see that even though these staff are busy with their own work, and taking care of their own homes, they still found the time and the generosity to look out for those children who don’t have families of their own.

“It was truly impressive and heartwarming to see how giving my colleagues are, it was so lovely to see so many members of staff come together to either buy items or donate items from their own homes.” Says Shama Amesbury, PR and Communications Manager of Gran Kaz.

The devotion from staff was so inspiring, it also prompted Gran Kaz to matched it with a SCR14,000 donation, that went mostly towards the cost of the Baby formula, diapers, wipes and other necessary item for babies, such as soap, lotion and powder.

Sister Rosefine from Foyer de la Providence also thanked the staff profusely, saying they had no idea just how much they were helping the orphanage. With 10 small babies, the formula and diapers are items that they go through extremely fast, and are always in need of.

Staff left the orphanages on a high note, saying that the spirit of giving that is usual for December, feels all that much better when giving to those truly in need.
