With the drug scourge currently infecting our country it is every parent’s worst nightmare that their child get gripped in the claws of such a debilitating addiction. For many out there, the nightmare is a reality. And for one particular mother of 3 the nightmare has lasted for the past four years. For four years, she has been suffering the hardship of watching one of her sons battle an addiction to heroin. This is not often a story that ends well. Fortunately for this mother, her son has accepted that he needs help and not only that but he has actively sought it. The concerned mother, therefore, wasted no time in sending him for treatment overseas.
Rehabilitation, as we well know, is a lengthy process that requires hard work on both the side of the patient and the therapist. And this mother’s resources were unfortunately inadequate to cover the length of this process, so she wrote to us to ask for assistance.
We hear a lot of talk about Corporate Social Responsibility, but do we really understand the full impact of it? It is about taking care of your own, taking care of you community. Gran Kaz truly believes that when we help improve the quality of life for our communities, we all reap the benefits. This is why when we were approached by this distraught mother, earlier this week, we didn’t hesitate to lend a hand.
Having a workforce that is largely made up of parents, and being parents themselves, Gran Kaz executives were easily able to put themselves in her shoes and immediately responded.
We agreed to cover the costs of keeping the young man in rehab for a further couple of months enabling him to get the most out of the programme and ensuring that he will return home equipped with the strength and willpower to continue battling the addiction on his own and be able to return to a full, healthy, happy and productive life.
We are happy to have been able to help this family in their time of hardship, and we wish the young man all the best in his recovery.
